How our products contribute to sustainable buildings

All of our new product developments and new versions of dormakaba products must have best in class energy efficiency, following our EcoDesign requirements. Additionally, we help our customers achieve a good energy balance for the building. For example, our automatic door systems operated through our MotionIQ technology minimize energy loss by optimizing opening and closing times based on the walking speed of the individual approaching the door, thereby reducing heating and cooling costs.

Our products are engineered for durability and longevity, reducing the need for frequent replacements and minimizing material waste. High-quality materials and construction ensure that dormakaba solutions stand the test of time, providing lasting value to customers. One example of this is the ES PROLINE automatic sliding door operator. It achieves a certified 1.5 million opening cycles and therefore has an approx. 50% longer service life than its predecessor model.

We understand the natural resources limits of our planet, therefore we are accelerating circular solutions to develop material-efficient, energy-efficient, high-quality products that reduce our customers’ environmental impact and meet the needs of a sustainable built environment. No new dormakaba product can be developed without incorporating our circularity guidelines, which includes requirements on energy use, materials selection, longevity/durability, repairability, adaptability, and disassembly.

To support our customers, we acquire GreenCircle Certified certifications for the use of recycled materials in some of our products. GreenCircle Certified is a globally recognised organisation that specialises in the assessment and certification of sustainability standards for products, services and operations.

We provide transparent information for many of our products, in the forms of Environmental, Health and Building Product Declarations, and other sustainability-related certifications. Most of the time, these are verified by a third-party, and are based on international standards. We also provide recycled content certifications for some part of our product portfolio. With the help of these declarations and certifications, our customers can achieve credits for their sustainable building certifications. Currently we are offering more than 300 of such declarations and certifications.

Some of our production facilities are also ISO 14001, ISO 45001 or ISO 50001 certified for environmental and health & safety good management practices.

We invest in research and development to continually improve the sustainability of our products. Innovative technologies, such as energy-efficient components and smart building systems, help customers reduce their environmental footprint and achieve their sustainability goals.
