Indianapolis, 12 November 2025 – dormakaba is proud to have made a family’s home accessible again as part of the Season 16 finale of US broadcast television NBC’s home renovation show “George to the Rescue.”
NBC’s uplifting, Emmy-winning “George to the Rescue” has supported deserving families and communities in need since 2010. The series reaches millions of U.S. viewers each season across NBC stations, Peacock, and YouTube. For the first time in show history, host George Oliphant and his crew recently returned to help a family for the second time – this time with support from dormakaba.
Back in 2020, the show visited Stewart Manor, New York, to renovate the Marquino family’s home to support teenager Danny, who had bravely battled a brain tumor. Now thriving, Danny and his family once again needed help when his father, Larry, was paralyzed in a devastating skiing accident earlier this year.
As part of the renovation, dormakaba’s New York service branch installed a complete automatic door system at key entry points in the home. The solution combines low-energy automatic operators, premium locks, touchless wave-to-open sensors, and electric strikes to deliver smooth, quiet, and hands-free accessibility. By adapting a commercial access solution for a residential space, the company was able to bring the same standard of convenience and accessibility found in hospitals, schools, offices, and other public spaces into a home environment.
"dormakaba’s doors have changed the way Larry lives each day,” said Christine Marquino, Larry’s wife. “Before, moving room to room was a constant struggle, but now he can navigate our home freely and safely on his own. That sense of independence means so much to him and all of us. dormakaba’s generosity has brought a new sense of normal back into our lives.”
The project also involved an entirely renovated driveway, deck, and an expanded first floor, allowing Larry, Christine, and their four children to remain under the same roof.
“When something that was once simple becomes an obstacle, we are there to help literally open those doors,” said Derek Sarmas, VP dormakaba Access Automation Solutions. “We are grateful to have been trusted to make an improvement in the Marquino family’s everyday life while reinforcing our commitment to help people around the world access what matters most.”
