dormakaba presents new terminal generation – the first product based on the Group-wide platform strategy

Wednesday, May 7, 2025

Rümlang, 7 May 2025 – dormakaba is presenting an entire product family based on the company-wide platform strategy for the first time at the “Zukunft Personal Süd 2025” trade fair in Stuttgart, Germany. The new 98 00-K7 terminal generation for time and attendance, shop floor data collection and access control will be presented. The aim of the platform strategy is to reduce complexity, increase efficiency, and sustainably promote innovation and growth.

The new 98 00-K7 terminal sets new standards in functionality and flexibility. It not only meets the highest requirements for a modern time recording solution, but it also becomes an information hub at the workplace thanks to its ability to display extensive information.

The new terminal generation is based on a modular architecture and a standardized technical foundation. This approach ensures that central hardware components such as the processor and memory can be used across the board, significantly reducing the number of electronics and firmware variants. A single operating system automatically recognizes which display is connected, simplifying development and maintenance considerably. At the same time, production and assembly benefit from a reduced number of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and interfaces, which makes production more efficient and cost-effective. The new design also sets standards for flexibility: Future functions, such as connectivity to the mobile phone network, can be easily integrated thanks to standardized interfaces. The hardware is specifically designed so that expansions are possible without requiring adjustments to the housing concept.

The presentation of the new terminal product family marks the first milestone in the implementation of dormakaba's platform strategy. In the future, further products will be developed based on this approach in order to exploit synergies between the product lines, shorten development times, and standardize customer experiences.

Till Reuter, CEO dormakaba, says: “With our new generation of terminals for time recording, we are demonstrating what our platform strategy can achieve in practice: less complexity, more efficiency and faster innovation. It is an important step on our way to further developing dormakaba as a technology-driven company – with solutions that are scalable, flexible and future-proof. The introduction of the K7 terminals is just the beginning.”
