Rümlang, 22 July 2026 – dormakaba is launching a smart access solution that makes opening and closing doors significantly easier, especially for older adults, people with limited mobility, and children. The EasyAssist system sets a new standard for barrier-free access to buildings and rooms. The EasyAssist system improves comfort and safety in everyday life and can be easily retrofitted in locations such as senior living facilities and hospitals. The technology is also energy-efficient due to its low power consumption.

Four functions in one system
The EasyAssist system offers multiple functions in a compact solution:
- Gentle electronic assistance when opening manually, requiring less effort
- Automatic opening with just a light touch on the door
- Touchless access in fully automatic mode
- Controlled, quiet closing
Because the system uses the existing mounting points of traditional door closers, it is particularly easy to retrofit – for example, in senior living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, hotels, or administrative buildings.
Phased market launch
Following its launch in the U.S. in April 2026, the EasyAssist system will be introduced in Germany and several Asian countries in July 2026. The launch in Switzerland is planned for spring 2027, with other markets to follow.
From research to practice
Findings from several research collaborations have been incorporated into its development. dormakaba worked with several universities in Germany to investigate how the force required to open a door can be reduced throughout the entire range of motion. In another research project, conducted jointly with the Singapore Institute of Technology, the company explored the specific difficulties doors pose for older adults in their daily lives.
With this innovation, dormakaba is responding to demographic change. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of people over the age of 60 is expected to double to around 2.1 billion by 2050. Accessible environments are considered a fundamental prerequisite for health, safety, and social participation.
