Digital innovations for a secure and sustainable Europe: dormakaba organizes conference on EU research project
Thursday, May 8, 2025
Rümlang, 8 May 2025 – To mark Europe Day, dormakaba is hosting a two-day international conference on "Digital innovations for a secure and sustainable Europe" at its German headquarters in Ennepetal. The event is part of the EU-funded research project "open Digital Building Logbook" (openDBL) and brings together leading players from the construction industry, technology, and science.
A total of 13 partners from eight European countries are collaborating on the EU research project openDBL. The aim of openDBL is to develop a new type of digital building logbook that will standardize the management and use of building data across Europe and make it fit for the future. As the project´s sole practical partner, dormakaba is presenting innovative approaches on how buildings can be operated more efficiently, securely, and sustainably through the use of artificial intelligence and networked digital access solutions.
Expert presentations and a panel discussion will take place on the morning of May 8, 2025, in Ennepetal. The focus will be on how safe and sustainable buildings can be realized in Europe in the future – and how digital technologies can support this goal. Afterward, visitors will have an opportunity to learn about the solutions and pilot projects developed in Ennepetal (Germany), Ruvo di Puglia (Italy), Kifissia (Greece) and Mislata (Spain) at an in-house exhibition. The developed openDBL solutions will be implemented as examples in various types of buildings, such as schools, kindergartens or social centers. Participants at the conference will include EU project managers, mayors or deputies from cities with pilot projects, and representatives from universities and colleges, such as Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts. The conference will continue on May 9 with an internal event for project partners and representatives from other EU research projects.
Till Reuter, CEO dormakaba, says: "With our conference on the EU openDBL project, we are bringing together experts from all over Europe to help shape the future of digital construction. Making buildings safer, more sustainable, and more intelligent – this can only be achieved with innovative technologies and intensive exchange across national and industry boundaries. Standardization is the key: Only if we agree on common standards across Europe can digitalization in the construction and security industry really take off. This is exactly what we are offering a platform for."
